The Taupo Native Plant Nursery was established at Taupo in 1961, as part of
the Department. of Conservation to grow and supply native plants for the restoration
of scenic reserves, forests and national parks. They were the first specialist
revegetation native plant nursery in New Zealand and now, private since 1993,
