This site is created with Macromedia Dreamweaver 4. Text is written with Microsoft Word 2002 and copied into Dreamweaver. The website is usually updated weekly.
The site has been checked with MS Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 30, Google Chrome 36, Safari 5 and Opera 20 on MS Windows.
Most images are produced by the webmaster. Early photos (from 1985 to 2002) were taken with an Olympus OM1, using on initially Kodachrome, then Fujichrome. At first these slides were scanned on an Epson flatbed scanner with slide adapter – and more recently (December 2005) on a Nikon Coolscan film scanner (these slides will have Nikon in their filename).
From April 2002 to May 2004 photos were taken with a Fuji Finepix 2600. From June 2004 onwards they were taken with a Cannon digital SLR using a 50 mm macro lens.
Images are edited and cropped using Adobe Photoshop Elements 15, then reduced in size. Images are 20 or 30 Kb; and the thumbnails (small images) are 6 KB.
In response to a request from a visitor, a search facility was added in February 2005. FreeFind was used as a variety of formats was offered, one of which fitted our layout nicely – as it had no graphics button.
The pages were initially formatted using frames, but between January and September 2007 these were rewritten in XHTML 1.0 and CSS. These new pages were uploaded in September 2007, and checked (November 2007).
The navigation to plants was improved by splitting the original Plants link into Hebes A to Z and NZ plants A to Z (October 2008).
A page describing the Hebe Society was added to Wikipedia (January 2009).
Titles added to all photographs (not thumbnails) – these are visible in Firefox (February 2009)
