NZ Plants T – Tmesipteris elongata to Trichomanes reniforme
Tmesipteris elongata is a fern ally that typically grows as an epiphyte (perched on another plant, which
is usually a tree fern). The aerial stems are pendulous, with leaves spirally
arranged. The spore containing capsules are found on the stems.
Trichomanes reniforme, kidney fern, forms large mats in the forests of North, South,
Stewart and the Chatham Islands. The fronds are a distinctive kidney shape,
and curl up in dry weather, recovering after rain.
