NZ Plants T – Tmesipteris elongata to Trichomanes reniforme
Tmesipteris elongata is a fern ally that typically grows as an epiphyte (perched on another plant, which
is usually a tree fern). The aerial stems are pendulous, with leaves spirally
arranged. The spore containing capsules are found on the stems. |
|
Trichomanes reniforme, kidney fern, forms large mats in the forests of North, South,
Stewart and the Chatham Islands. The fronds are a distinctive kidney shape,
and curl up in dry weather, recovering after rain. |
